When comparing the time that two past events happened, the Past Perfect is used to indicate which event happened before.

  1. When Mr. Nguyen came to the United Stated, he had already lived in five different countries.
  2. Judy had spent an hour and a half waiting in line by the time the tech store ran out of new tablets.
  3. Had you met Jamie before last night?  When I introduced you two, she looked like she recognized you already.
